Carl Zimmer mentioned in passing that a quarter of all mammal species are bat species, which astounded me. I did know that echinoderms were not insects though.
A rodent loses it on a running wheel and gets thrown around. He looks fine afterwards though.

The BBC is reporting on some new research that show the characteristic chirp of the Anna’s Hummingbird is most likely made by vibrations of the tail feathers during high speed descents.
